Blessings and Thankfulness | Thanksgiving Day 2012

  Today we give thanks .

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday in the US, but more importantly, it is a day that we spend being thankful for everything and everyone in our lives.

Blessings and Thankfulness | Thanksgiving Day 2012

Traditionally, families and friends gather together, sharing food, good times and memories of those that have come and gone.

Generally, turkey and ham are choices made for the dinner table, with all of the fixings, perhaps including stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, maybe a pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

Hmmm, sounds delicious, doesn’t it?….:)

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is held in New York City, where this morning it gave the residents there something to be thankful for, a little normalcy after the devastation left behind from Hurricane Sandy a few weeks ago.

Football is also a standard on this day in America, where most of the guys, bloated from gorging on all of the food are lounging around together watching the games on TV, maybe having a few beers, while the women take the opportunity to tackle the huge mess left behind.

Indianapolis, IN has great weather to enjoy, temperatures in the 60′s and sunny today, unusual for this late in the year.  Later today, I plan on visiting friends that have offered to share their own feast with us and for that I am grateful.

As I sat on my back porch earlier this morning, enjoying the stillness of the lake with the sun beaming down and warming me, I perused some of the things I am thankful for, and these I’ve chosen to share with any and everyone that cares to read them.

I’m thankful to my Mother and Father for bringing me into this Life that I truly hold dear. I miss them both everyday, but I’m thankful for everything they taught me while I still had them to embrace and tell them I Love them.

Thankful that I am healthy and active, thankful to my God for every blessing every day, so very much to be grateful for.

My friends and family whom I love so very much.

My partner in Life, who helps  and takes care of me with everything she does, everyday, trying to make things just a little easier for me.

Of course, I need to give thanks to all that serve in the Military, fighting for our rights and freedom to do what all of us do everyday.

Finally, I am thankful that I get to stay home everyday to work online, rather than fighting the 9-5 rat race most others have to deal with.

Thanks of course also to you, for taking the time to stop by and share just a little of your time to read and absorb these words.

I am truly blessed.

My best to you always,

Dan

Thanksgiving Day | 2012

PS, Here is a little something I found to share with you, a little something extra…enjoy!

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN’T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP
TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
‘TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES….
HAPPY EATING TO ALL – PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES ‘N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY   THANKSGIVING   TO  ALL
